The Ancient Art Of Perfume – Still Relevant Today

For centuries, the art of making and wearing perfume has been a part of human history. In fact, it is believed that some of the earliest civilizations, such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Indus Valley civilization, were all involved in creating perfumes. Even today, more than 4,000 years later, we still use many of the same methods to create these fragrant concoctions. Let’s take a closer look at how far perfume has come and what you need to know about choosing the perfect scent for yourself.

The History of Perfume

As we’ve mentioned before, perfume is nothing new. It is thought that even ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia used various plants and flowers to concoct their own fragrant oils and balms. In fact, one particular woman from ancient Mesopotamia was known as “The First Chemist” for her work in creating perfumes!  In Pyrgos, Cyprus an ancient perfumery was discovered which covered 3200 square feet – indicating just how important this craft was to them.

Choosing Your Scent

When it comes to choosing your own personal scent there are four main scent families that you should be aware of: Floral (calming and peaceful), Fresh (clean and invigorating), Oriental (rich and sensual) or Woody (mysterious and captivating). While everyone will have their own preferences when it comes to scents there are certain notes that tend to attract certain people more than others. For example; if you’re looking for something fresh then look out for notes like citrus fruits or herbal notes whereas if you’re looking for something more calming then opt for floral notes such as lavender or rosemary. If you’re not sure where to start with your search for a signature fragrance then Wikiparfum is a great resource – providing detailed information on scent families, ingredients and related perfumes.

Conclusion:

Whether you’re looking for something light and refreshing or deep and mysterious – choosing a signature scent can be an exciting process! With so many different options available it’s important to do your research beforehand so that you can decide on one that best suits your personality. From its origins in ancient Mesopotamia right up until now – perfume has been an integral part of our culture – why not make yours an expression of who you are?
