Speed From the Neck Down

Ibanez’s Prestige necks are known for their thin design. The maple/walnut neck on the S5470 is no exception, measuring 18 mm thick at the first fret and 20 mm at the 12th fret. This ensures nimble playing across the 24-fret rosewood fretboard and jumbo frets. The body’s deep cutaway opens up the highest registers with easy access. Ibanez’s S Series guitars are contoured to be extra thin and lightweight, for an axe that won’t strain your back after a long session.

A Powerful Pickup Trio

The S5470’s three pickups give the guitar a wide sonic range. A Hot Grinder 2 humbucker in the bridge position combines a traditional magnet and a rail magnet for a unique, hot sound. The Hot Grinder humbucker in the neck position gives off a similar sound but is more tailored to full-bodied lead tones. A Short Tracer middle pickup adds the option of biting single-coil sounds.

Player-Friendly Tremolo System

Ibanez has continued to update its tremolo systems, and the ZR2 bridge found in the S5470 is the fruit of their labor. Made of Duralumin, it uses ball bearings rather than the more common knife edges found in other tremolos. A snap-in arm socket makes for easier insertion and removal of the tremolo arm. If your playing style requires a few bridge tweaks, the ZPS system mounted in the backplate allows you to adjust the tremolo tension with a turn of the thumbwheel. A locking nut and Gotoh tuners at the headstock cap off the tuning ensemble.

This piece of art will last a long time. I take care of it and don’t see it going anywhere or failing on me at all. I’ll probably keep it as long as I live. It’s seriously that great! I forgot to mention I also checked out some PRS guitars (not SE), but this one is way better. Everything feels so much better on the Ibanez. Call me crazy, but it’s the truth. I am truly happy with this purchase, and if I got another guitar it would probably be a Fernandes Ravelle if they make them in Japan/US (it’s a Japanese company) and make them available here in the states, but that would only be to supplement the Ibanez. If this guitar was stolen I’d definitely get another one. Same model, same color, same everything. Then hope that whoever stole it died in a boat fire. I wish I knew that this guitar would’ve been the one because it would’ve saved me a few months of searching and cruising stores and the net. THIS IS THE ONE! BUY IT!
